Top seven reasons to come to Orientation
April 20, 2026
In-person Academic Orientation is your opportunity to learn what your experience as a Georgian student will be like. You’ll also learn about program expectations, meet your dean, associate dean, program coordinator and faculty team, and connect with your peers.
Summer 2026 Academic Orientation will be on Monday, May 4 at the Barrie, Owen Sound and online campuses.
Here are seven reasons to check it out!
1. Make friends and new connections
Between Head Start and Academic Orientation, there are so many opportunities to meet new people and make some great friends. Orientation activities are designed to help you build your community from day one at Georgian.

2. Get involved and have fun!
Whether you’re connecting on campus, taking part in fun activities, or exploring places off campus, you’re bound to have a great time at Orientation events. Expect music, games and lots of energy!

3. Connect with your program coordinator
At your Academic Orientation, you’ll have a chance to meet your coordinator and ask questions about the semesters ahead. You’ll also meet your classmates and faculty, helping you feel more confident and prepared. Make sure you register for your program’s Academic Orientation!

4. Get to know your campus
Optional tours will be available at some campuses, or you can explore the halls on your own. By the end of the day, you’ll feel more at home and ready to navigate your new environment.

5. Free lunch and Georgian swag!
Come enjoy a free lunch while you get to know your campus and meet fellow students. You’ll also have the chance to pick up some great giveaways to help you start your semester feeling welcomed.

6. Set yourself up for success
Orientation events are a great time to take care of important tasks like picking up your ONEcard, checking out your classrooms, and learning about parking and student systems.
Tip: Order your ONEcard ahead of time—pick up will be available at your home campus. You need your ONEcard for many different services and supports around campus. Outside of campus, your ONEcard can also provide you with discounts, benefits, and more!

7. Learn about your new community
Academic Orientation will give you the chance to explore both your academic and social communities. You’ll meet student services teams, explore campus resources, learn about local organizations and connect with fellow students.
