Team Georgian earns eight medals, continues winning streak at Skills Ontario
May 6, 2026
Eight Georgian College students won a variety of gold, silver and bronze medals at this year’s Skills Ontario competition.
These results continue Georgian’s long history of success at the event, held May 4 and 5, with an awards ceremony May 6, which showcases the talents of the best skilled trades and technologies students from across the province.
Team Georgian scored a clean podium sweep for the second year in a row in Outdoor Powered Equipment and brought home three gold medals in historically dominating categories including CNC Machining and Geographic Information Systems. To top it off, a bronze medal was claimed in the college’s first ever appearance in Graphic Design – Studio Production.

Back-to-back clean podium sweeps in Outdoor Powered Equipment
Georgian continues to excel in Outdoor Powered Equipment, with three students from the Midland Campus winning gold, silver and bronze. The first clean podium sweep result for Georgian in 2025 saw the only female competitor win bronze and one student compete at nationals. Logan Wilkey will be this year’s Team Ontario representative in this category at the Skills Canada national competition in Toronto at the end of May.
The Skills Ontario event is an incredible experience, both for our students and for faculty mentors. I’ve been in the trades for more than 20 years and seeing the students’ admiration for the trades re-sparked my passion and reminded me why I’m in this industry. We’re all extremely proud of each student and what they’ve achieved throughout this process, from training sessions to competing on the biggest skilled trades stage.

CNC Machining historically dominating
Over recent years, CNC Machining has been one of the college’s top-performing categories with multiple medals at the provincial and national levels, plus an appearance at WorldSkills. This year’s gold medal winner, Marley Gaspirc, a Mechanical Technician – Precision Skills student, will be moving on to compete at Skills Canada. She was also a recent recipient of a Schulich Builders Scholarship for Skilled Trades.
“I’ve always loved working with my hands and coming to Georgian was probably the best decision I could have made,” she says. “When I got chosen to compete at Skills Ontario, I was so excited that I had tons of extra time to work closely with my teachers to prepare. Coming from a small town, I can’t wait to see where these opportunities take me next in my life and my career.”

There are so many reasons for students to get involved with Skills Ontario. Not only do they gain incredible hands-on experience, their confidence sky-rockets. You meet so many employers, manufacturers and other students to build connections and discover potential career opportunities out there. Plus, if you medal in the provincial competition, you could travel overseas to compete at nationals – now that’s something unique to put on your resume! No matter the results, participating in this event is truly unforgettable.
