How to register to part-time courses

Before you register

If you’re taking credit courses toward a Georgian credential, make sure you’ve completed the necessary steps before registering.

Check that you’re ready:

  • I applied to a program and have confirmed the offer for my program
  • My program does not require an application – I have a student number and a program major
  • I have reviewed the delivery schedule for my program and have a list of courses to take
  • I have reviewed the information package for my program

Refer to the part-time program’s list to learn more about applying to a part-time program.

If you still have questions, email us at ptprogram@geogiancollege.ca

Student numbers and declaring a major

If you need a student number, you’ll be prompted to create one during registration.

If you’re working toward a Georgian credential and your application does not require an application through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS), you’ll need to declare a major. Declaring a major allows you to take courses under that major.

If you’re prompted to declare a major:

  1. Email ptsregistrar@georgiancollege.ca with Declare a major in the subject line.
  2. Include your student number, the program name and your intention to study part-time.

You can also call the Office of the Registrar at 705.722.1511.

Option 1: Register through the website

  1. On your program page, click on the course name in the Current Course Offerings chart to view the available course sections. To view individual course details (including fees, start/end dates), click on each section.
  2. To register into a course, click on “Add to cart”.
    • NOTE: you may see several sections of the course. Read the day/time/delivery carefully to ensure you choose the section you want to take.
  3. When you have chosen all of the courses you plan to register into, go to “View Cart” at the top of the page.
  4. Proceed through the payment process with Checkout. You will be required to log into Banner at this point – ensure you have your login information ready!
    • Once you check out and log in to proceed to payment, you will be registered and responsible for course fees – even if you haven’t completed the payment yet.
    • If you did not intend to register, complete the Withdraw from Part-time courses form. Failure to do so will result in remaining registered and being held academically responsible for the grade you earn as well as the fees associated with the course(s).

IMPORTANT:

  • Ensure you know which courses you are ready to register for before proceeding to checkout. All required courses must be added to your cart before completing your registration. Once you leave your cart, you will be registered in the courses currently selected and payment will be required. Note: once you proceed to payment, you will not be able to add additional courses until payment is processed for the courses in your cart.
  • Students applying for OSAP funding can proceed with registration without payment. Payment will be made at a later date once you receive funding. Note: As your course fees have not yet been paid, you will be unable to register for additional courses. Please reach out to ptsregistrar@georgiancollege.ca for assistance.
  • If you have further questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Option 2: Register through Banner

Part-time students can also register for courses in our student information system, Banner, during Georgian’s part-time credit registration period (add/drop period). Refer to Georgian’s Important Dates for the part-time credit registration period dates.

To register using Banner, follow the steps outlined in the “Trying to Add a Course” document.

If you encounter an error while registering through Banner, review the Part-time Studies Banner Errors guide for common problems and possible solutions.

Tip: To locate your CRNs, refer to the communication you receive from the part-time studies’ team, or visit the Current Course Offerings chart on your program’s webpage.

Important information for part-time credit students

Changing or withdrawing from a course during the registration period

Part-time students cannot withdraw from courses directly through Banner.

To withdraw, complete the Withdraw from Part-time courses form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar. Removing a course in Banner does not necessarily mean you’ve been officially withdrawn.

For most programs leading to a Georgian credential, part-time students can register for a maximum of three courses per semester. If you’re registered in three courses and want to replace one, you’ll need to withdraw from a course before adding another.

Processing a withdrawal can take up to 48 hours. Once your withdrawal has been processed, you may be able to register for a replacement course.

Withdrawal deadlines affect your eligibility for refunds and whether an academic grade is assigned. Review the Important Dates and applicable policies before making changes.

Payment information

Full payment of course fees are mad at the time of registration.

Textbook aren’t included in course fees. Note course fees are subject to change

Visit our payment and fees page for more information.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter an error while registering through Banner, review the Part-time Studies Banner Errors guide for common problems and possible solutions.
