Health Information Privacy

Course description

Students in this course explore the legal, ethical, and security frameworks governing health information management in Canada. A significant part of their studies focuses on developing an understanding of the complex landscape of health information legislation in terms of collection, use, storing and sharing personal health information. Students also explore the key legislative frameworks in Canada, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), and provincial/territorial laws that govern health data privacy

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
