Biography

Mark Halpren is a fractional finance leader providing early-stage technology companies the expertise and flexibility to build a capable finance function. He draws on experiences working with both high growth entities and large multinational companies. He founded FirstCFO Inc. ten years ago to deliver fractional finance services to early‐stage technology companies. He also supports accelerator programs as a mentor at The Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, University of Toronto’s Hatchery and previously Toronto Metropolitan University’s DMZ, Next Canada and OCAD Imagination Catalyst.

Through FirstCFO, Mark leads a team that acts as an extension of in‐house leadership to provide expertise in finance led growth initiatives as well as controls, compliance, cash‐management, forecasting and taxes.

Prior to founding FirstCFO, Mark was the Director of Finance for a video game publisher listed on the TSX.V and Director of Finance at Achievers Inc. leading up to its successful exit. Mark also spent 12 years at Ernst & Young LLP in a variety of finance and accounting leadership roles including audit, forensic accounting, partnership accounting and corporate restructuring. He holds a Canadian CPA‐CA and Certified Fraud Examiner designations.
