Course description

Students review the political, social, and legal applications of public safety and emergency management in Indigenous and Canadian communities. Students broaden their knowledge of risk assessment, logistics, resource deployment, and contingency planning within an all-hazards framework. Emphasis is placed on inter-agency coordination, communication, and decision-making in dynamic environments. Students analyze procedures adopted by various agencies in response to major incidents, including natural disasters, national and international security events, fires, pandemics, hostage situations, bomb threats, and AMBER Alerts, with consideration of evolving public safety challenges and community impacts

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
