Course description

Students investigate the fundamental elements of interpersonal communication and explore the effects of self-concept, perception, emotions, and verbal and non-verbal behaviour on interpersonal dynamics in both personal and professional relationships. Through self-reflection, students gain insight into the impact of self on others and approaches to resolving conflict. Emphasis is placed on flexible communication styles in helping relationships and interprofessional environments. Concepts of interpersonal skills are applied to CYC competencies for professional Child and Youth Care Practitioners and readiness for the field

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
