Course description

Students synthesize the fundamental theories and techniques of group counselling. Through a combination of didactic and experimental learning activities, students explore their own interpersonal behaviors and those of others in a group context. The activities will focus on interpersonal communication skills, feedback and self-disclosure skills, and intervention techniques. Leadership, therapeutic boundaries and ethical guidelines for practice are also examined. Additionally, students will analyze the impact of addiction on family systems using systems theory, evaluate support strategies for families and friends of individuals with addictions, and design appropriate intervention plans to strengthen support networks

Prerequisites


Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
