Course description
Students examine a variety of mental health disorders that commonly affect older adults using a health and wellness continuum model and an integrated bio-psycho-social approach. Mental health challenges such as cognitive decline and dementia, mood and anxiety disorders, substance use and other addictive disorders are explored in the context of health, psychological and social challenges that often occur with aging. Competencies that support therapeutic engagement, such as collaboration with clients, family members and other healthcare/social service professionals, are developed.
