Course description

Students explore ethics and professionalism through discovery and analysis of attitudes, values, beliefs, biases and child and youth care (CYC) ethics. The ecological perspective is incorporated and emphasizes the child and youth care practitioner’s connection to self, community and the larger society. Professional practices are examined that relate to the child and youth care field and helping professions that include the ethics of research and the duty to report. Students develop strategies to assess their own readiness for the field including a summary of skills, abilities, self-care strategies, roles and responsibilities and preparation required for the field placement experience

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
